THE WAY BACK UP
Well,
here it is, the first update in a month. Spose you think the site
is dead? Wrong, well, it might be, it's up to you. About 2-3 weeks
ago I asked for volunteers to help run the site. I got a good response
but I just got lazy and had my exams and so I didn't get time to
get those helpers sorted out. Well, since circumstances may have
changed for those people I'm going to ask again for volunteers (the
same people who volunteered before are more than welcome to come
forward again, I just didn't want to presume you'd still want to
do it at this time). As many people will know by now, I have quite
strict guidelines for running the site. So what I'm going to do
it post a link for my "How
to update 3dmm.co.uk" guide. Just click that link and you'll
be taken to a lil help pack I prepared for future 3dmm.co.uk helpers.
If, having read through
that guide, you think you have what it takes to help run this site,
then please, email me at will@3dmm.co.uk
and tell me a little about yourself, thanks.
As I said 2-3 weeks ago,
I will be splitting the workload up between 5 people based on genre
of movie. So each review helper will only review a certain genre
of movie (like 'Action' or 'Drama' movies). This will obviously
decrease the workload immensely between helpers and will thus enable
them to continue doing updates for longer. Not only this, but it
means that the site does not hang on one single person for any given
update.
Ok, with that out the
way I will give some details on this update. Firstly, there are
no movies. Sorry, but as you can see, I'm in the process of getting
this sorted. Right, so what have I been working on ?
·
Ok, the first thing you'd have noticed is the new site design. It's
not far removed from the last, but it makes a nice change and signifies
that the site is getting updates again. I've ditched some sections
(links, icq listings, and 3dmm tips) because they were a bit unnecessary
and updating them just puts extra strain on me. I would like to
keep the tips section but really, it's pretty useless aside from
the "No CD trick" which I'd removed due to incompletion.
·
I've also moved the site history section and rating scale to the
"site info" section. I've added a hell of alot of stuff
to the site info section include a complete personal record of my
time in the community as well as a guide through all the previous
site designs along with information on what was going on at the
time.
·By
now you'll have also probably noticed the addition of the "Top
movies" section. This is just my Top 10 best 3dmm movies of
all time section I've had in the works for a while now. Eventually
I will expand it to a top 50 and will also add a "3dmm classics"
section to show all the golden oldies that influence the community
in big ways.
· I've
also finally moved all the new movies into the main archives. This
is just a laborious job that needed to be done. I've also now removed
the "sort by director" movie archives since it is way
too much hassle to update. I know, I know, it's a great thing and
was really useful, but like I said, it just doubles the time it
takes to add movies into the archives.
That's about it really.
Oh yeah, there's also an 'easter egg' in the new flash menu, though
It isn't easy to find, BWAWAWAWAWA - NOT EASY TO FIND !!!! *ahem*
yes. Anyway...
So yeah, please read through
the"How to update
3dmm.co.uk" even if you're not thinking about offering
your help. It gives a good idea of what goes into a 3dmm.co.uk update
(bare in mind that it doe not include details on adding the movie
names to the archive listing and adding all the new movies to the
movie archives. Not that this job will be required of people offering
help as I will do this). If you think it's easy work then please
by all means contact me and offer your help. 3dmm.co.uk needs you!
Note on CC Preview: It
should be out in the next update. I know I've said this a million
times but yesterday I finally after months and months got back in
working on 3dmm. It's basically complete, I just have a few scene
details to add, sound effects, and a scene pre-cacher. So yeah,
should be ready by next week if not earlier....
One last
note, my apologies to anyone who's email I haven't answered. I left
them over my exam period and found nearly 100 emails to wade through
so I just marked them all read. Sorry. If you've sent any mail to
me, please send it again now as I now regularly checking my mails
and so I'll be able to give you a speedy reply.
